Live editing

You can watch the assistant build a document in real time — and edit right alongside it. Two things make that smooth, and one thing to avoid.

Watch edits happen live

In live mode, the assistant opens the document in a window on your screen. As it works, you see every change appear instantly — text, tables, slides, all of it. You can type in that same window yourself, and the assistant sees what you add right away too.

One catch: edit the window the assistant opened for you — not a copy you open yourself. If you open the same file separately (say, by double-clicking it on your desktop), you get your own private copy. From then on, you and the assistant can’t see each other’s changes until one of you saves and the other reopens. So to follow along live, stay in the window it opened.

Your work stays safe

The assistant won’t write over what you’re doing. If you’ve changed the document since it last looked, it notices, reads your version first, and carries on from there — instead of clobbering your edit.

It also won’t close a document with unsaved changes without you saying so, so nothing you’ve typed gets thrown away by accident.

This works the same for documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
